Card Analysis #1: Final Brawl

From a series by Jason Langlois.

Final Brawl
Event
Cost: [Dragon] 0
All characters in play suffer 2 points of damage.

General Notes

As an Event, this card has a lot of flexibility. It can be played during any Main Shot, giving it offensive and defensive potential. Getting a Dragon resource into your pool shouldn't be that difficult in most Dragon decks, and it has a zero cost, freeing your Power up for other cards.

Use

The Final Brawl is almost always useful. In the early game, when the characters are more likely to be smoked by the damage, it is a cheap Neutron Bomb. Combined with Last Outpost, it can let your characters survive the Brawl and take advantage of the sudden lack of opposition. I've seen the card used to finish off damaged heavy hitters, to reduce the damage done in an attack below what was needed to burn a site, and to generally tidy up large clumps of Fighting 1 and 2 characters.

I'd reccomend playing the Final Brawl when you don't have characters in play. Played early in your Main Shot, it can open up options for you. Played after interceptions are resolved, it can dissolve an opponent's otherwise successful attack.

Pros

Can potentially do a lot of damage for no cost. Is particularly nasty against most of the cooler Ascended cards (which tend to have Fighting 1) or foundation characters. It isn't targetted, so it can't be redirected. Can be an excellent card for combos.

Cons

It does damage to your own characters, including your own cool ones (Chinese Doctors, Righteous Ones, etc.).
